About Damascus Knives
FOR THOSE OF YOU NOT AWARE OF THE TERM “DAMASCUS KNIVES”, I THOUGHT I WOULD TRY AND EXPLAIN THE MEANING OF A BEAUTIFUL, ANCIENT, LEGENDARY, QUALITY KNIVES, SWORDS, AX AND OTHER STEEL ITEMS DATING BACK APPROXIMATELY 1700 YEARS. THIS TERM AND PERIOD OF THE THIRD CENTURY IS ABOUT THE MAKING OF VERY HARD QUALITY STEEL WHICH IS USED IN FIGHTING AND COMBAT WEAPONS. THIS EARLY PERIOD OF STEEL MAKING IN THE REGION OF SYRIA AND DAMASCUS; THE BLACK SMITH’S FOUND A WAY TO FORGE HARDEN STEEL BY HEATING TO HIGH TEMPERATURES AND FOLDING OVER AND OVER AGAIN WORKING THE METALS TOGETHER AND REMOVING IMPURITIES OUT OF SELECT IRON ALLOYS FROM THE HEATING PROCESS. IT WAS SAID, THESE ANCIENT SWORDS CUT THRU GUN BARRELS AND SLICE HAIR INTO TWO STRANDS, THE KNIGHT CRUSADERS LOVED THESE SWORDS AND KNIVES WHICH WOULD NOT BREAK IN COMBAT AND REMAINS SHARP FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME. THE DAMASCUS STEEL, SOMETIMES CALLED WOOTZ OR PATTERN-WELDS ARE FORGED AND CAST TOGETHER THRU VARIOUS METHODS OF THE LAYERING PROCESS. BY WORKING THE VARIOUS METALS TOGETHER, IT CREATES A WAVY ARTISTIC PATTERN. WHEN AN ACID ETCHING SOLUTION IS USED ON THE METALS IT DEVELOPS A BEAUTIFUL PATTERN ON THE STEEL. THERE ARE NO TWO PATTERN ALIKE DUE TO NO TWO STEELS MIXED ALIKE.
IT IS SAID THIS STEEL MAKING IS A LOST ART OVER THE THOUSANDS OF YEARS AND HAS TO THIS DATE NOT BEEN DUPLICATED. MOST BELIEVE IT’S THE LOST SELECTIVE MATERIAL USED IN THE MAKING OF THIS SPECIAL STEEL, POSSIBLY USED UP COMPLETELY OR COMPLETELY LOST FOR WHAT EVER REASON.
DUE TO THE BEAUTIFUL DESIGNS AND (KEEP IN MIND THE STEEL USED TO DATE IS NOT THAT OF THE ANCIENT STEEL, MANY HAVE TRIED BUT NO ONE KNOWN HAS DUPLICATED THIS PROCESS), I HAVE INCLUDED SOME OF THE DAMASCUS DESIGN KNIVES IN OUR SELECTION WHICH CAN BE USED DAILY AND STILL HAVE THE LEGENDARY LOOK. THESE BEAUTIFUL DESIGNED KNIVES WOULD BE A GREAT GIFT FOR THAT SOMEONE SPECIAL, FOR THE HOLIDAYS, BIRTHDAY OR A SIMPLE WAY OF SAYING THANK YOU FOR BEING THERE. THEY ARE GENERALITY TREASURED AND OR PASS DOWN TO SON AND DAUGHTERS.
